Definitions: Walkways are a dedicated path or surface specifically made for walking. Steps are an elevated portion of a walkway or surface.

Walkways

Walkways are a great way to add great aesthetic and sense of direction on properties. There are generally two types of walkways, primary and secondary walkways, with the exception to informal walkways that naturally form, but can be artificially made. Walkways can be made out of several different materials: Natural stone, pavers, brick, concrete, gravel, and more. These materials can be used simply via a homogeneous configuration, or, on the contrary, these materials can be used to create complex designs via heterogeneous configurations; configurations may range from just a path of natural stone with a unanimous pattern to a more complex brick & tile configuration with a random pattern. With this, walkways can be very flexible in adding aesthetic, while also serving its main function of adding direction.

Steps are very similar to walkways, with the key difference being that a step is only an elevated part of a walkway, and can be basically constructed like a walkway on each layer. Because of the similarities between a step and a walkway are so close, steps are usually made using the same materials (natural stone, pavers, brick, concrete, or gravel&logs), same heterogeneous or homogeneous configurations, and  same complex or simple patterns. Though steps are very similar to walkways, and generally have the same effects as walkways, steps add a very unique feature to properties, and that is dimension and depth, which can really aid in the overall aesthetic and feel of a property.
